Bond Star Daniel Craig Speaks Of 007 Beatings

(November 13, 2006) — Daniel Craig may be getting a rep as the buffest Bond on record, but those rippling pecs and washboard abs didn’t stop him from getting beaten up quite badly while shooting the 21st installment of the series, ‘Casino Royale,’ which hits theaters this Friday.Access Hollywood sent our own resident Brit, the handsome Tim Vincent, on a mission to find out about the real blood, sweat and knuckle tears the newest 007 received on the film’s South African set.“When we were doing the running stuff like in Madagascar I kind of pulled my Achilles tendon and they were killing me,”newBond Danielconfessed. “That kind of throws your body out? I’d wake up some mornings and literally the alarm clock would go at 5:30 and I’d open my eyes and go, ‘I don’t know if I can get out of bed.’”Not willing to let the Bond franchise and its pedigree of tough actors, like Sean Connery down, Daniel battled through the injuries. He revealed to Tim though, that at times, his inability to move forced him to undergo massages and swallow Ibuprofen.“I’d kind of rock myself out of bed, get the bath on and sort of soak my muscles,” Daniel admitted. “I’m not a professional athlete by a long stretch but I understand that the thing with pain you got to work [it] through. Sometimes you think you can’t do something and actually with enough movement you get through the pain.”Bond fans heading to the theater this weekend interested in seeing Craig’s injuries on screen need look no further than the opening sequence. “If you look at the spin, when I turn around and shoot and you look through the barrel – if you look really closely, every knuckle is wrapped in a band aid,” he told Tim. “I’d smashed it so many times against the wall my hand had actually split open. My hand had actually swollen up like a balloon because I’d hit it so much.”Another part of Daniel’s anatomy, his crown jewels, takes a beating in a fight with new Bond-baddie, Le Chiffre, played by Mads Mikkelsen. So Tim had to ask? is everything OK now?“I’m really glad you’re concerned but it’s all fine. I’m not letting you check,” Daniel laughed. ““We had fun doing it. I kind of put my headphones on, got [The] Clash going and The Foo Fighters and sort of amped myself up for it and sort of got myself in to the right frame of mind.”
