Brandy’s ‘Dancing’ Blog, #4 – Story Week… Why We Chose ‘The Bodyguard’

Whew! I dance another week! I’m so excited! More importantly, I learned that this adventure could be more fun if I just get out of my own way.

Hi there fans and Access Hollywood family, I has been a week since I checked in with you and I have to say, this week was filled with some real lows and some real highs. All week in rehearsals, I kept telling myself to be quiet and trust Maks. I thought it would be a fun thing and a message (to myself) to place an “I love Maks” masking tape over my mouth to remember to be quiet, follow his instructions and learn the choreography. I spent the weekend over at my mom’s to get that mother’s love and attention. She cared for my ankle and I was able to relax.

Monday night, I took some time before leaving the trailer to concentrate on having fun. I sat there all alone, waiting for them to come and get me before heading to stage. I prayed and said affirmations, but mostly I took a step back and looked deep within myself to get to that happy place. You know, that happy place – that place where everything and everyone melts away in your world and you’re calm and totally at peace? Well, I finally reached that place and somehow I just knew that everything would be all right and I would have a fun time with Maks dancing to our chosen theme: “The Bodyguard.”

When we were told that we had to come up with a storyline for this week’s dance, we knew immediately that “The Bodyguard” was perfect for us. With all the different rumblings out there, no one knows how much Maks and I really do get along, and just how much we have in common. Once we decided on our theme, he came up with the amazing choreography that would incorporate both emotion and sensuality with the dance movements and intricate steps. It may have seemed a bit clichéd, but I believe that “The Bodyguard” movie — when it came out — struck a universal chord in everyone and that’s why it was such a big hit. Haven’t YOU ever loved someone who loved you back but the timing was just off and you couldn’t be together? This theme was perfect for me, as I know that I have definitely been in that position. For those of you wondering about Maks, you’ll have to ask him yourself J. Once we began to practice, things slipped into place and even though my ankle was bothering me, I was so into the dance Monday night that I hardly felt anything except happiness. By the end of our routine, I knew that I had given it my all and nailed it! As far as I’m concerned, the judges scoring of triple 8’s were great and the compliment that I was definitely ‘back on track’ just filled my heart with joy.

Tuesday morning started out early for me as I did 14 phone interviews with radio stations across the country. From Phoenix to Austin, Milwaukee to Memphis, New York to DC and back to LA, I chatted with some of the top deejays at the various stations. My daughter, Sy’rai, was getting ready for school and we had enough time to share thoughts and encouragements before she left for school. By 8 AM, I was on my way to the studio to get ready for Elimination Day. Even though I felt great about Monday’s performance, I was still a bit nervous about the audience voting. We are always reminded that while the judges carry a lot of weight, it’s really you – the viewers and fans – who have the ultimate power over deciding whether we go or stay on for another week. I was extremely relieved when they told us early on that we were safe. Thank you for your support and votes!

Overall, I would have to say that I had a truly fun and fantastic week and I’m looking forward to this week’s new dance. Scoring triple 8’s was great, but I’m still searching for that perfect triple 10 that I know Maks and I can obtain. So, that’s it for me, I have to go to bed, get some rest and start the learning process all over again. Thank you once again for checking in with me and rooting for Maks and me as we move forward into the competition. Your votes are really important and they definitely count. Don’t forget that I will be answering your questions in my next blog, so send them in and I’ll make sure to give you a shout-out and an answer!

Much love to all my fellow stars and the fans,

brandy
