Bristol Palin Welcomes Baby Boy

Pregnancy has been a real trip for Bristol Palin.

The daughter of former Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, who announced her pregnancy during the campaign this fall, gave birth to her first child on Sunday, People reported.

The baby, Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston, weighed in at 7 lbs. 4 oz. and was born in Palmer, Alaska.

Bristol is currently finishing up her high school diploma via correspondence courses, while her fiance, Levi Johnston, studies to become an electrician, the mag reported.

“Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We’re proud of Bristol’s decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents,” Sarah and husband Todd Palin said in a statement when they announced the pregnancy news. “Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family.”

The couple reportedly plans to wed in 2009, but in the meantime, Levi – who showed his support for the family by appearing at the Republican National Convention in September — is showing his commitment, as well. He has “Bristol” tattooed on his ring finger.
