Buckwild Stars Respond To Senator’s Call To Cancel MTV Series

MTV’s new reality show “Buckwild” stirred up controversy last month — before it had even aired — with calls to cancel the West Virginia-based show, and now the stars are responding.

Shain, dubbed “Gandee Candy” on the show, and Shae, “The Spicy Southern Belle,” stopped by Access Hollywood Live on Thursday, where they addressed West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin’s comments, where he called the a show a “travesty” and claimed it, “plays to ugly, inaccurate stereotypes about the people of West Virginia.”

“I represent myself and myself only,” Shae told Kit Hoover and Michelle Beadle.

MTV’s new series chronicles the life of a group of twentysomethings in the rural foothills of West Virginia, where their days are filled with things like dump truck pool parties and building human slingshots – along with plenty of partying, relationship woes and drama.

“There’s no way nine individuals can represent the state of West Virginia,” she continued, referencing Senator Manchin’s comments. “That’s just silly.”
Shain told Kit and Michelle that being in the Big Apple was a big adjustment from his rural roots.

“This is the first time I’ve ever been to New York, first time I’ve ever been on a plane,” he said. “The plane ride was pretty awesome. The car ride afterwards was scarier than the plane ride!”

The “Buckwild” stars were quick to squash the idea that their show is the new “Jersey Shore” for the network.

“It’s completely different,” Shae said of her show when compared to the hit MTV series that ended last month.

Catch the premiere of “Buckwild” tonight at 10 PM on MTV.
