Carrie Underwood Loves ‘Big Hair’: It Makes Me Look ‘Smaller’

Carrie Underwood has long been away from her native Oklahoma, but the country superstar’s style tastes still reflect her Southern roots, no matter where she travels.

“We country folk, we like our big hair. I am certainly no exception,” Carrie, 29, told People, adding that her childhood fashion icons were “country women.”

“They like sparkles, they like big hair and they wear big hair. That was gorgeous to me and it still is,” she added.

And there’s a method to the big hair madness – an instantly slimmed-down appearance.

“I just feel like… maybe it makes the rest of me look smaller,” the “Undo It” singer said of her penchant for large locks. “I’m not sure of my reasoning, but that’s the number-one thing I do when someone fixes my hair — I put my fingers in it and make it look bigger.”

Carrie’s style has evolved quite a bit since she exploded onto the music scene, winning “American Idol” in 2005, and the singer admitted she’s grimaced more than a few times when looking back at old photos from her early years.

“I still feel like the same person, but sometimes I’ll look back at pictures of myself in college or in high school and I’ll say, ‘Oh my gosh, what was I thinking?!’” she told the mag. “But I’m sure 10 to 15 years from now I’ll look back to now and say, ‘Why would I wear that?’”
