Casting Call: ‘Caprica’ Star Paula Malcomson Joins ‘Hunger Games’

Jennifer Lawrence, meet your “Hunger Games” mother.

Former “Caprica” star Paula Malcomson has been cast in the upcoming Lionsgate film as the mother of Katniss (Lawrence) and Prim Everdeen (Willow Shields), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Malcomson is known to sci-fi fans for her role as Amanda Graystone in TV’s “Battlestar Galactica” prequel series. Her other credits include FX’s “Sons of Anarchy,” NBC’s “The Event,” as well as stints on “ER” and “Deadwood.”

It’s the latest casting news surrounding the much-buzzed about project, based on the Suzanne Collins trilogy, slated for a March 2012 release.

Earlier in the week, Variety reported that “30 Rock” star Elizabeth Banks was in talks to play Effie Trinket, escort and sometimes protector of the movie’s central characters Katniss and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson).

Prior to that, Entertainment Weekly reported that newcomers Dayo Okeniyi and Amandla Stenberg had been cast in the roles of District 11 tributes Thresh and Rue, respectively.

Rounding out the cast thus far are Liam Hemsworth, Amandla Stenberg, Leven Rambin and Jack Quaid in the Gary Ross-directed film.
