Casting Call: Russell Brand’s New Dame — Helen Mirren

Move over Katy Perry – Russell Brand has got a new dame on his mind.

Helen Mirren will share the screen with the British funnyman in the upcoming remake of “Arthur,” according to Variety.

Brand will play the title character – made famous by Dudley Moore in the 1981 classic – while Mirren will play his longtime nanny.

In the original, there was no nanny, but rather a butler played by John Gielgud, to whom Arthur turned for advice when his family threatened to cut him off if he didn’t marry a woman he didn’t love.

Gielgud won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for the role.

Peter Baynham, who was a writer on Sacha Baron Cohen’s big screen ventures, “Borat” and “Bruno,” wrote the reboot.

Brand will next be seen reprising his raucous “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” character Aldous Snow in the new Judd Apatow comedy, “Get Him To The Greek.”

Interestingly, this will mark the second time Mirren and Brand have acted together. They also both starred in the reimagining of the fable “The Tempest,” which wrapped production over a year ago and is slated to hit theaters later this year.
