Casting Call: Viggo Mortensen Pulls Out Of ‘Snow White’; Headed To ‘Superman’ As Villain?

The Man of Steel has his new leading lady – but, has he also found a possible nemesis?

Viggo Mortensen is no longer in talks to star in Universal’s fairy tale fable “Snow White and the Huntsman,” according to Variety.

As a result, speculation has spread that Viggo could potentially step in to the role of the villain in the upcoming Zack Snyder-directed/Henry Cavill-starring “Superman” reboot – something that was previously dubbed unlikely due to the conflict in Viggo’s schedule.

While Zack and Warner Bros. have remained mum on who could step into the role – and which role exactly it would be, for that matter – names mentioned as possible candidates have included Viggo, as well as Edgar Ramirez and Michael Shannon.

Earlier this month, Zack spoke to the Latino Review about the possibility of Viggo joining the cast.

“Is Viggo Mortensen still a person of interest in Superman now that he’s locked into Snow White?” the site asked at the time.

“Yeah, Viggo is not going to be in the movie let’s say that right now. I can clear that up,” the director commented, prior to Viggo pulling out of the Snow White pic.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Amy Adams has landed the coveted role of Superman’s main squeeze – Lois Lane – in the film.

The cast will also include veteran actors Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Martha and Jonathan Kent, respectively.

The film, tentatively titled, “Superman: Man of Steel,” is slated for theatrical release in December 2012.
