Catching Fire: Sam Claflin Cast As Finnick Odair In Hunger Games Sequel

The Quarter Quell has officially cast its resident Tribute hottie.

British actor Sam Claflin — who recently starred alongside Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart in “Snow White and the Huntsman” – will play the trident-wielding tribute Finnick Odair in “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” Access Hollywood has confirmed.

The second chapter of “The Hunger Games Trilogy” sees (*SPOLIER ALERT!*) Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) back at the mercy of the Capital in a special edition of the games, called The Quarter Quell, which happens every 25 years and includes new twists to the deadly competition. In this edition of the games, past victors from the various districts are assembled to fight to the end.

Sam joins a slew of new actors in the second installment of the big screen adaption of the Suzanne Collins’ bestsellers, including Philip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch Heavensbee, Jena Malone as tribute Johanna Mason, Lynn Cohen as tribute Mags and Amanda Plummer as tribute Wiress (nicknamed “Nuts” by fellow tributes)

In July, Access caught up with Josh Hutcherson where he weighed in on some of his new co-stars.

“Oh my God, Philip Seymour Hoffman. He’s like one of my favorite actors ever,” he said of the actor who plays the Head Gamemaker in the sequel to “The Hunger Games.” “Everything he does, he’s just the most epic guy… I was blown away when I heard about him.”

“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” (directed by Francis Lawrence) begins shooting in the fall and is slated for theatrical release on November 22, 2013.
