Catching Fire: Sam Claflin In The Running For Finnick Odair; Tony Shalhoub Frontrunner For Beetee?

The Capitol’s arena is filling up.

According to Variety, British actor Sam Claflin — who recently starred alongside Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart in “Snow White and the Huntsman” – is the frontrunner to play trident-wielding tribute Finnick Odair in “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.”

In addition to the interest in Claflin, former “Monk” star Tony Shalhoub is reportedly the top pick to play Beetee, Variety reported.

If chosen for the film, Claflin and Shalhoub will join newly-cast Amanda Plummer in the second installment of Suzanne Collins’ bestselling trilogy.

On Tuesday, Lionsgate announced Plummer — best known from her roles in “Pulp Fiction” and “The Fisher King” – will play Wiress in the film, a character whose eccentricity earns her the nickname “Nuts.”

“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” begins shooting in the fall and is slated for theatrical release on November 22, 2013.
