Cate Blanchett In Talks To Join Disney’s Live-Action Cinderella

Anastasia and Drezilla may soon be graced with an Academy Award-winning mother.

Cate Blanchett is in talks to play Cinderella’s cold-hearted stepmother in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of the classic fairytale, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The movie, which has been in the works since 2010, will be directed by Mark Romanek (“Never Let Me Go”), while Simon Kinberg (“Elysium,” “X-Men: First Class”) is set to produce, THR reported.

Aline Brosh Brosh McKenna, who penned 2006‘s hit, “The Devil Wears Prada,” wrote the first draft of the screenplay.

Blanchett will soon be seen on the big screen reprising her role as Galadriel in “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” – in theaters on December 14.

The Australia-born actress, 43, is also set to star in two as-of-yet untitled films for directors Terrence Malick and Woody Allen – both slated for theatrical release in 2013.
