Chaz Bono’s Documentary To Make World Television Premiere On Oprah Winfrey Network

Chaz Bono, son of the late Sonny Bono and music legend Cher, will debut his documentary, “Becoming Chaz,” on the Oprah Winfrey Network, Access Hollywood has learned.

The documentary, making its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival 2011, is the story of Chaz’s emotional and physical transformation from a woman to a man.

“We are proud to present this heartfelt and honest portrayal of Chaz’s personal transformation to our viewers,” Lisa Erspamer chief creative officer, OWN, said in a statement released to Access on Friday. “These courageous documentaries engage conversation and we are pleased to have them join OWN.”

“Chaz is someone who has risked everything to become himself. But whatever he might have lost, he has gained far more,” added Randy Barbato, director/producer, World of Wonder Productions. “It takes great courage and strength to go against other people’s expectations of us in order to be true to ourselves.”

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, born Chastity Bono, Chaz began the process of becoming a transgender individual in June 2009.

A rep for the gay rights advocate and writer confirmed Chastity was undergoing the process to go from female-to-male.

“Chaz, after many years of consideration, has made the courageous decision to honor his true identity,” rep Howard Bragman said in a statement at the time.

“He is proud of his decision and grateful for the support and respect that has already been shown by his loved ones,” Bragman’s statement continued. “It is Chaz’s hope that his choice to transition will open the hearts and minds of the public regarding this issue, just as his ‘coming out’ did nearly 20 years ago.
