Chelsea Handler On Netflix Series: A ‘Younger, Cooler ’60 Minutes”

Chelsea Handler announced she was leaving her E! show behind for Netflix last year, leaving fans wondering what her new series would look like.

The always funny comedian stopped by Access Hollywood Live on Monday, giving Billy Bush and Kit Hoover new details about her endeavor with the streaming network.

“There are some really interesting celebrities to talk to, but I wanted it to be a different format,” she said when asked if the show would be entertainment driven.

Chelsea explained that viewers will see a more serious side of her in the new format.

“If I’m going to speak to somebody maybe we’ll spread out the interview over three nights and do other stuff with it. … I don’t want it to be so jokey. I want it to be funny. … I want it to be like a younger, cooler ’60 Minutes.'”

She’ll still be skewering the week’s biggest news, but in a new way.

“[I] can kind ofdo like a weekly wrap-up, but tongue-in-cheek, and have it be a little more intellectual than what I was doing before,” she explained. “I love being at Netflix. I’m loving the idea of being at Netflix. That’s where it’s cool to be. I’m grateful they wanted me, and I’m looking forward to making it something decent.”

She warned that the new show will not feature her “Chelsea Lately” sidekick Chuy.

“If I didn’t rescue him, he would have been in porn movies!” she joked. “He has money now. He can retire or do whatever he wants. No, he won’t be in the new show.”

In addition to her upcoming Netflix talk show – debuting in 2016 – Chelsea will have four new docu-comedy specials air on the streaming network in 2015.
