Chloe Grace Moretz To Play ‘The Little Mermaid’ In Live-Action Adaptation

A new “Little Mermaid” is about to be part of our world.

Chloe Grace Moretz will play the
title character in an upcoming live-action adaptation of Hans Christian
Andersen’s classic fable, the actress announced via social media on Friday.

“Here it is !! I’ve been waiting months to tell everyone how
excited I am to take on this beautiful journey with Working Title, Universal,
and a beautiful script by Richard Curtis,” the 18-year-old wrote on
Instagram of her new project.

On Friday,
the trade mag reported that executives had Chloe in mind when Sofia Coppola was still attached to direct. The
“Lost in Translation” filmmaker dropped out earlier this year, which Variety reported was due to “creative differences
with the studios.”

Little is
known about the storyline surrounding the newest retelling, and a release date
has not been set. The original fairy tale famously follows a love-struck mermaid’s quest to become human and find a life for herself outside of the sea.

Chloe isn’t
putting on her fins just yet – the actress is currently filming Universal’s
“Neighbors 2,” which is slated to hit theaters on May 20, 2016.
