Christie Brinkley Recovering From Back Surgery

NEW YORK (February 28, 2007) — Christie Brinkley was recuperating Wednesday from back surgery at a Manhattan hospital, her publicist said.

Her publicist Marcia Horowitz released the following statement to Access Hollywood:

“Last evening Christie Brinkley underwent emergency back surgery . The injury occurred during a recent ski trip with her kids and worsened in the past few days.

“The surgery was successful and she will be out of the hospital Friday. Her biggest disappointment was not for herself but for missing her daughter Alexa Ray Joel’s performance this evening at the Mercury Lounge and the pre-concert supper party she was set to host in Alexa’s honor. As Christie noted right before the surgery, I would break my back to help my daughter but I didn’t mean it literally.”

Alexa Ray Joel added, “I wish that my mom could be there for the show but the most important thing right now is for her to get well so she can continue to keep up with her kids active schedule as well as her own. I love having her at my shows; she is my best friend in the world. I am delighted that my godfather, Ron Delsener, will now host the party.”

Brinkley hurt her back during a ski trip in Aspen, Colo., in December “and (it) worsened in the past few days,” Horowitz said.

She is expected to be released Friday, said Horowitz, who didn’t identity the hospital.

Last year, Brinkley was the subject of tabloid fodder after reports surfaced that her fourth husband, Peter Cook, had an affair with an 18-year-old woman he employed.

Brinkley filed for divorce in September.

The 53-year-old supermodel, who has frequently appeared in Sports Illustrated’s annual swimsuit issue, was previously married to developer Richard Taubman, Frenchman Jean-Francois Allaux and singer Billy Joel. She has three children.
