Cindy Crawford: Daughter Kaia Allowed To Model Again For The Right Job

Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber’s 10-year-old daughter, Kaia, made headlines in January when she made her modeling debut for Versace, but Cindy says reports of her putting a stop to Kaia’s blossoming career are not true.

The supermodel stopped by Access Hollywood Live on Thursday, where she cleared up the situation.

“I got called by Donatella Versace’s PR person, who I know because I’ve worked for Versace for years, and they said, ‘We’re launching this new kids line, we’d love to have Kaia,” the supermodel told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover. “And of course, I’m like protective mama, so I said, ‘Who is doing the pictures?’ I said, ‘I don’t want her looking like a tart. She can’t wear makeup.’”

The Versace PR person assured Cindy things would be appropriate, telling her, “It’s for a kid’s line.”

“I knew it would be great and thought it could be a good thing for her to try, which she has been saying, ‘I would like to try,’” Cindy continued. “And we did it and she loved it. She was kind of unaware of the media, you know, why would she know? But then someone said, ‘You’re launching her modeling career?’”

Cindy explained that she never squashed Kaia’s modeling future and the job was only something they wanted to try.

“We weren’t launching her modeling career, it was just one thing. And then it got interrupted as like, I’m reeling her back,” she told Billy and Kit. “It was a great, one opportunity, that I felt could be fun.”

Despite how the media reported the story, Cindy said she’s open to Kaia modeling in the future.

“If it was the right – again, I’m going to hold the bar so high for her, in terms of photographers and stuff, because I know. And she doesn’t need to do it at age 10, but if there was some incredible opportunity, why not?” she continued.

Cindy was glad to see that Kaia took away how demanding a career in modeling might be, saying, “The great thing was, she came away from that going, ‘It’s kind of hard, Mom. It was work.’”

And Cindy’s daughter has her mother’s modeling stamp of approval.

“I keep saying to her, ‘I don’t even need to show up for work anymore. I’m sending you from now on,” Cindy added.

Cindy, who lost her brother to acute lymphoblastic leukemia when she was 10, also spoke to Billy and Kit on Thursday’s Access Hollywood Live about her work with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and their St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway.
