City Attorney Charges Ty Pennington With Misdemeanors

“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” star Ty Pennington is going to need a lawyer.

The Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office confirmed today that they are charging the star with two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence.

Pennington was arrested on Cinco de Mayo on suspicion of driving under the influence.

According to Pennington’s booking sheet, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stopped the star on May 5 at 12:35 AM. An hour later, Pennington was booked at the LAPD’s Pacific Division.

A short while later, the star, whose show renovates the homes of needy Americans, was released on $5,000 bail. He has been ordered to face a judge at the Airport Branch Courthouse in Los Angeles on June 4.

Pennington follows a host of stars who have been arrested in recent months on suspicion of driving under the influence including rapper Eve, Vivica A. Fox, Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton.

Pennington admitted remorse over the incident in a statement released to Access Hollywood.

“I made an error in judgment,” he said in the statement. “We all make mistakes, however this is about accountability. Under no circumstances should anyone consume alcohol while driving. I could have jeopardized the lives of others and I am grateful there was no accident or harm done to anyone. This was my wake-up call. I also want to apologize to my fans, ABC Television and my design team for my lapse in judgment and the embarrassment I have caused.”
