‘The Color Purple’ Cast Pays Tribute To Prince

The cast of Broadway’s “The Color Purple” paid a moving tribute to Prince on Thursday night.

“Today we lost a legend. We lost a legend who was a good friend of mine,” Jennifer Hudson told the crowd.

The Oscar winner went on to reveal that she and her castmates joined Prince when he was in town “not too long ago,” and she said they were honored to have been able to spend that time with him.

“Tonight, if you guys don’t mind, we would like you all to join us in honoring Prince,” she added, as the crowd cheered.

The cast – with lead vocals by Cynthia Erivo and Jennifer – then performed an emotionally charged performance of Prince’s “Purple Rain,” which ended as they pointed up to the sky in honor of the legend, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 57.

“We all sang together , after all prince has truly touched us all!@cynthiaerivo sing Cynthia !!!!!!” Jennifer wrote on Instagram, next to a video clip of the performance.
