Colton Dixon is ready to move on following his “American Idol” elimination last week, but he has one small regret.
“I think song choice got the best of me [last] week. I think I could have chosen a better song, should have, but, you know, lesson learned. A little late,” he told Access Hollywood Live’s Billy Bush and Kit Hoover.
While the judges weren’t over the moon with his performance of Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September,” Colton thinks his fans couldn’t relate to his other cover on Wednesday night — of a Lady Gaga song, which he didn’t think fit with his image.
“I’m talking about ‘Bad Romance,’” Colton explained. “Just for my core audience, I’ve taken a stance in my faith and I feel like I could have chosen a song that better represented me as an artist.”
Now that he has left the competition, Colton sees his future recording plans include making a Christian rock LP.
“Absolutely,” he said. “Let’s do it.”
Colton said he will miss the cast and especially, good friend Phillip Phillips.
“We’re all tight. I hated to leave all of them, but what’s so cool is whenever I started singing, Phillip actually bowed his head and was praying over me and my career and that gave me chills whenever he told me that,” Colton revealed. “I got a chance to pray with him before I left, I’m so excited for what he’s gonna do on the show.”
