Comic Hypnotist Rich Guzzi’s Mission To Get 100,000 People To Quit Smoking

Comic hypnotist Rich Guzzi is on a mission to get 100,000 people to quit their smoking addiction.

For Guzzi, the goal of the “Start Joking! Stop Smoking!” tour stems from a painful experience. This year marks the thirtieth anniversary of his father’s death. While en route to a hospital, he said his father died due to smoking-related heart disease. This left Rich to complete the painful 20 minute drive to the hospital, with his departed dad at his side.

Guzzi believes that between his live comedy shows bringing awareness to the viability of hypnosis as a tool to better people’s lives and the Internet, he can utilize his skills to permanently affect 100,000 Americans, over 365 days, to kick the smoking habit. “It’s a chance to honor my father’s legacy and help others be responsible for their actions through hypnotic direction,” Guzzi said.

He now aims to unite a vast network of people who say “no” to tobacco. All this while pulling off the delicate balancing act of getting people to laugh really hard and bring awareness of the serious side and benefits of using hypnosis.

“Hypnosis has never been put on the map in the proper way. It’s considered black art, people jumping up like chickens,” Guzzi said. “People don’t realize you can solve a lot of problems with this stuff, extremely quickly.”

A native of Long Island, New York, , 50, has performed more than 5,000 live shows during the past 15 years bringing his brash swagger and East Coast sensibilities to audiences across America. He is on the road most of the year, up to 300 days. He has been described as a combination of Tony Robbins and Tony Soprano. Guzzi will begin his heartfelt quest in conjunction with the “Great American Smoke-Out” on November 21, continuing through his 12-month tour.
