Confirmed: Anne Hathaway To Play Kurt’s Lesbian Aunt On ‘Glee’

Anne Hathaway is heading to “Glee,” co-creator and writer Ryan Murphy confirmed to Access Hollywood on Sunday night.

“It is true,” Ryan told Access at the FOX post-Golden Globes party. “She said it in the press that she wants to play Chris Colfer’s lesbian aunt.”

Ryan revealed that casting Anne on “Glee” happened on Sunday night, while the Globes telecast was still going on.

“She walked by our table and we have a mutual friend and I said, ‘Do you really want to do it?’ And she said, ‘I do.’ And I said, ‘OK, we’re gonna do it.’”

The “Glee” honcho said that they will likely film Anne’s guest role in the coming weeks.

“I think we’ll do it probably in a month and a half or so… I have to talk to Anne about what she wants to sing. I’m sure she has ideas,” he said. “I’m excited about that.”

Anne actually revealed her interest in “Glee” on Jimmy Fallon’s “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” back in November.

“In my head, I’ve written a part for myself on ‘Glee.’… In my head I’ve cast myself on ‘Glee’ and I know what song I’d sing,” she told Jimmy “I would wanna play Kurt’s long-lost aunt, his mother’s sister who is also gay, who comes back to help him deal with his sexuality, and I would sing, ‘You Are Not Alone’ from Stephen Sondheim’s epic show ‘Into the Woods.’”

Chris, who won a Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a TV Series for playing Kurt on “Glee,” told Access at the FOX party he was beyond thrilled about the breaking Anne casting news.

”[I’m] so excited,” he said.

Chris revealed that he learned the news earlier in the evening, not long after his own Globes win.

”[I found out] tonight — when Ryan announced it backstage when we were doing press,” he smiled.

The actor added that he hopes he gets to sing the song Anne told Jimmy about, when she finally comes to the “Glee” set.

“She wants to do ‘You’re Not Alone,’ from ‘In The Woods,’ which I’m all for,” he raved. “I’m so excited. I love her and I worship her.”

But Chris might have some competition from Chord Overstreet, who plays McKinley High football star Sam Evans.

“I’m in love with Anne Hathaway,” he told Access. “That’s one woman that I would love to marry… No, I’m kidding ‘cause that would be really awkward if she comes on the show and she finds out that I already said that. I would love to just meet her.

“She’s awesome, she’s amazing and you know she can sing,” he continued. “It would be awesome. I would love to see her on the show.”
