‘Dancing With The Stars’ Kicks Off Season 6 With ‘Macho Monday’

“Dancing with The Stars,” returned with their sixth season on ABC Monday night.

Dubbed “Macho Monday” by co-host Tom Bergeron, the evening’s festivities were reserved for the six celebrity men in this year’s competition – radio personality Adam Carolla, Las Vegas entertainer Penn Jillette, sexy Latin heartthrob Cristian de la Fuente, “Three Men & A Baby” star Steve Guttenberg, R&B singer Mario and lanky Miami Dolphin Jason Taylor – each of whom made their first twirl on the ballroom floor.

Access Hollywood special correspondent Mel B was in the audience watching the first night’s performances and she’ll have her take on Access Tuesday night, but first, we have your recap of the evening’s festivities.

Penn took to the dance floor first, with his partner, bubbly Australian Kym Johnson.

“I’m not the youngest, best looking or most athletic, but I have the most experience on stage,” Penn said before the on-screen couple tackled the cha cha, a dance which showcased the exorbitantly tall comedian sliding between Kym’s legs.

“OK, what have you got,” Penn asked the judges as he finished his dance.

“I’ve gotta say Penn, I thought you captured the flavor of the cha cha cha,” judge Len Goodman commented. “It was fun, you kept the flavor going… The problem was your feet. You’ve gotta work on the footwork.”

Their score? — 16/30!

Football player Jason Taylor, joined by Edyta Sliwinska, stepped up next with a fancy foxtrot.

Despite his height, and his profession, Jason thrilled the judges to the tune of 22/30.

“Jason, you’ve got to be the most graceful tackler I’ve ever seen,” judge Bruno Toniolo enthused. “Those lines you did were very fantastic.”

Actor Cristian de la Fuente, the next dancer, told the audience that although he is Latin, his countrymen in Chile are not known for their ballroom skills. He may have downplayed his skills too much though, as his cha cha with Cheryl Burke netted a fancy 21/30, the third highest score of the night.

Radio personality Adam Carolla, who danced with two-time “DWTS” champ Julianne Hough, however, only managed a 15/30 with his foxtrot.

“Adam, if the fox trot was an actor, imagine George Clooney… What you did was Will Ferrell with a bit of John Cleese thrown in there… There is work to do,” Bruno commented.

Up next was the youngest competitor, 21-year-old R&B singer Mario; Karina Smirnoff’s second partner bearing that name.

“Dang! You can dance,” Carrie Ann Inaba raved of their 24/30 grabbing cha cha. “Your chest bravado is awesome.”

Finally, Steve Guttenberg took to the floor with red head Anna Trebunskaya for the foxtrot.

“You are the first one that has come out and looked like you were enjoying yourself,” Len said. “You got to work on your technique but great performance.”

The couple scored 18/30.

The women will dance tomorrow.
