Danica McKellar Speaks Out About Painful Divorce: It’s One Of ‘The Saddest Events’

After news broke of Danica McKellar’s impending divorce this week, the actress has spoken out about the sad time, confirming the split and thanking fans for their support.

“I am just overwhelmed by the love and support in the messages I’ve been receiving from all of you via Twitter and Facebook during this incredibly tough time,” Danica wrote in a post published on her personal website on Thursday. “The end of a marriage has got to be one of the saddest events one can experience – I’ve heard that the pain is second only to an actual death in the family, and that sounds about right.”

Despite their relationship coming to an end, the former “Wonder Years” star said she and her soon-to-be-former spouse will maintain civility toward each other as they strive to successfully co-parent their nearly 2-year-old son, Draco.

“I am so grateful that my relationship with my ex, Mike Verta, has been nothing but amicable, and that this process seems like it will be as smooth as can be hoped for,” she wrote. “We are both totally in love with our little boy, and believe this is the best thing for him.”

Danica married Mike, a composer, in March 2009; the pair had dated since 2001.
