Danny Pintauro: I Contracted HIV From ‘Oral Sex’

After his shocking HIV-positive revelation, Danny Pintauro has shared more information on how he contracted the virus.

In an interview with Us Weekly, the former “Who’s the Boss?” star said he used protection with the man who he believes he got the virus from, and actually contracted the disease through oral sex.

“Believe it or not, with this guy I was actually safe. We did use condoms. I got it another way, which was through oral sex, which is a complicated story,” the actor – who said he was abusing crystal meth at the time of his infection – told the mag. “When you put all of these nasty things together, like a compromised immune system, having been up for a long time, drugs, rough sex, all of that combined with lesions in your mouth, bodily fluids mixing, it’s that easy.”

The 39-year-old also opened up about receiving support from his “Who’s the Boss?” family, Tony Danza and Judith Light, ahead of his life-changing interview with Oprah where he admitted he’s been HIV-positive for 12 years.

“Tony and Judith, they knew. So they were already lending their support,” he said.

His other co-star, Alyssa Milano, did not know.

“I wasn’t in contact with Alyssa and I regret that now. I really should’ve let her know beforehand because she got just as shocked as everybody else,” he said.

After the interview, Danny and Alyssa started texting.

“It’s been so cool, so good… we’ve been in touch a lot since then,” he said. “She’s helping in so many ways. She’s my everything right now! I’m so happy we’ve reconnected. It’s really good stuff!”

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Danny shared his health battle with Oprah Winfrey during an episode of  “Where Are They Now?” last month.

“I wanted to tell you this a long time ago, but I wasn’t ready. I’m ready now, I’m HIV-positive and I have been for 12 years,” he said in the interview last month. “I was doing crystal meth, which completely ruins your immune system. I had just come out of a two-year relationship and I discovered in that relationship that there was more I wanted to explore sexually. Crystal meth takes away your inhibitions. I was experimenting and believe it or not, I thought I was being safe in that encounter.”
