DA’s Office: Jackson Doctor To Be Charged Monday

A case will be filed against Dr. Conrad Murray, Michael Jackson’s former personal doctor, on Monday, the Los Angeles DA’s office told Access Hollywood.

“Nothing will be filed today in the Michael Jackson death case,” a rep for the DA’s office said in a statement to Access. “A case will be filed on Monday, Feb. 8, at the Airport Court, 11701 S. La Cienega Blvd. Information on charges and the scheduled arraignment at the Airport Court will be released after the case is filed.”

In response, Murray attorney Ed Chernoff canceled a press conference previously planned for 1:30 PM, “in light of the District Attorney’s office announcement that Dr. Murray will be charged on Monday.”

Prior to the announcement, Murray’s legal team had issued a statement saying that they would be holding a conference three miles from the Airport Court.

“The defense team of Dr. Conrad Murray will be available for questions at Pollywog Park,” the team said in a statement, adding that the location had been shifted from outside the Airport Court due to safety concerns.

Earlier on Friday, a rep for Murray told Access that the doctor was expecting to surrender to authorities at 1:30 PM.

“As of right now, we are planning to adhere to the original arrangement – waiting for a call from the DA regarding the time and place of the surrender and a 1:30 arraignment,” the rep said at the time. “If the DA’s office changes their mind, it’s on them.”

On Thursday, his legal team posted two updates on their Web site explaining that they were in negotiations with the DA’s office to turn in the doctor, who is expected to be charged with involuntary manslaughter.

The Houston and Las Vegas-based doctor and his team have been in LA for several days in anticipation of his surrender.

The hold-up of the charge has reportedly been a feud between the LAPD and the DA’s office. It’s believed that the LAPD, which conducted the lengthy investigation into the King of Pop’s June 25 death, wanted to make the arrest themselves and then transport him in handcuffs for his arraignment. And they apparently angered the DA’s office for working out details for Dr. Murray to surrender without the involvement of the LAPD.

Michael’s death was ruled a homicide by the LA County Coroners office last year, with the anesthetic Propofol considered the primary factor in conjunction with a mix of other prescription medications.
