David Arquette Admits To Acting ‘Childish’ Following Split From Courteney Cox

Following the October announcement of his spilt from wife Courteney Cox, David Arquette immediately began speaking out about intimate details of the couple’s relationship and took flack for over-sharing tales of his sexual conquests with Howard Stern.

Now, the actor has admitted his behavior was immature, but says it stemmed from intense pain caused by the demise of his and Courteney’s 11-year union.

“I went through a really hard time, and my way of dealing with it was just to blow it all up,” David told People at a Hollywood Bites Back event in Los Angeles on Saturday. “I did act childish, but at the same time I had to – I was really hurt. It was hard for me to deal with this, but what I had to do ultimately was step back and take a look at myself.”

The forced introspection caused the “Scream 4” actor to come face-to-face with aspects of his personality that he didn’t like, but wasn’t sure how to change.

After a brief tailspin into substance abuse, David sought help, completed a rehab program, and now boasts more than 100 days of sobriety.

“I’m really getting in touch with my feelings, and trying to process them in a more appropriate way,” he told the mag. “It’s easy to numb them, but it’s more fulfilling to feel them. I don’t have a desire to drink.”

, David and Courteney seem to have a found a solid footing despite their strained relationship status and are successfully co-parenting their 6-year-old daughter, Coco.

At the LA junket for “Scream 4” in March, Courteney told Access Hollywood’s Maria Menounos that despite her and David’s current estrangement (the couple first met on the set of the original “Scream” film), she’s happy fate had a hand in their meeting.

“[We] wouldn’t have had Coco [and] David wouldn’t be looking as cute as he does right now after those years,” the former “Friends” star told Maria at the time, of what would have been lost had she or David passed on their roles in 1996’s original “Scream.” “Now [David] looks the best he’s ever looked — he’s doing great. He’s just awesome…he does look great.

“He looks really, really cute,” Courteney continued to rave. “And he’s so stylish!”
