David Arquette ‘Thankful To Be Alive After’ Car Wreck; Says Driving Sans Seatbelt Was A ‘Knucklehead Move’

David Arquette was involved in a frightening head-on collision earlier this month and the “Scream 4” star is now saying that he learned valuable lessons from the dangerous wreck.

“It was shocking,” David told Access Hollywood’s Maria Menounos of the accident at the “Scream 4” junket in LA on Wednesday. “I’m still sort of in pain. I wasn’t wearing my seatbelt, which is just a big knucklehead move, and the airbag deployed and I banged my head on the thing.

“I’m really just thankful to be alive and that the woman that I hit wasn’t seriously injured and there weren’t any kids in the cars and stuff like that,” he continued. “But it was shocking and a real sort of moment for me to just sit back and like, calm down.”

The 39-year-old actor declared that he now makes it a point to buckle up anytime he’s in a vehicle and that he also now adheres to a slower pace.

“I definitely wear my seatbelt [and] I’m calmer at the wheel,” David told Maria of his new driving habits. “Just in life in general [I’m] just kind of easing slowly, having fun, being present.”

David’s estranged wife Courteney Cox – who stars alongside David in “Scream 4” – also chimed in regarding David’s “unfortunate” accident.

“[David] does usually wear his seatbelt and he always reminds me to wear my seatbelt so that was kind of weird,” Courteney told Maria of David’s self-proclaimed “knucklehead move” in a separate interview at the junket.

“I said, ‘David, what part of the ‘ding ding ding ding’ in the car didn’t annoy you?’” Courteney laughed, imitating a vehicle ‘no-seatbelt’ warning alarm. “It’s so annoying… [it makes me] want to kill everything! So, I don’t understand.”

Courteney added, “[David said] ‘I was close to home.’ Not that close! So, yeah, that was unfortunate. It hurt a lot. That was a lot of pain… I imagine if you were wearing your seatbelt, you wouldn’t hit the steering wheel so hard — but that’s just a thought.”

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, David Arquette’s head-on vehicle collision took place in Beverly Hills on March 4.

“He’s OK and on his way to be treated,” his rep told Access at the time.

David took to Twitter that evening to assure fans of his well-being and to caution against driving without buckling up.

“Remember to wear your seatbelt- wish I was,” he Tweeted, before adding, “It was a miracle the woman I hit was uninjured- Thank God!”

“Scream 4” hits theaters on April 15.
