David Beckham Heading To 2008 Beijing Olympics

Soccer star David Beckham is heading to the Olympics, but he won’t be playing in any games.

The Los Angeles Galaxy star will help close out the 2008 Beijing Olympics, as a representative of Britain, whose capital city London, hosts the next summer Olympics in 2012, Quincy Jones, an advisor to the opening and closing ceremonies confirmed to Access Hollywood.

“He told me,” Quincy told Access’ Shaun Robinson. “We had dinner and he told me to wait for him here.”

One reason for Beckham’s appearance in Beijing has to do with how instrumental he was in bringing the games to his hometown.

“He was very involved in the London bid to get it, and as a Londoner he is incredibly proud that the Olympics will be in London,” a source told People. “He is passionate about it and looking forward to the games in 2012.”
