DC’s Superhero Movies: 5 Burning Questions

Following Wednesday’s supersized superhero announcement from Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment – who announced that they are planning 10 movies, plus additional Batman and Superman spinoffs – we’re left with many burning questions!

A truth lasso and an invisible jet?

Kudos to DC for beating Marvel in bringing a female-fronted superhero movie to the big screen with “Wonder Woman,” starring Gal Gadot. But, we’re left wondering just how comic booky/cartoony the movie is going to look. The character, who is an Amazon warrior princess raised by only women on an island, fights villains basically in a bathing suit and knee-high boots – so how will this translate on the big screen!? (We haven’t forgot about the failed 2011 Adrianne Palicki “Wonder Woman” TV pilot written by David. E Kelly, and hopefully DC hasn’t either!)

Will he talk to fish?

The idea of an Aquaman movie might have been joked about on “Entourage,” but it is now actually happening with “Game of Thrones” alum Jason Momoa. His powers include super-strength, durability, super-speed, staying underwater indefinitely, and telepathy (so he can chat with dolphins, duh). This underwater-based film about the king of Atlantis could be epic (if done right!), but we’re also worried about the idea of Jason telling sea lions, seals and manatees to attack a bad guy!

Ezra Miller As The Flash You Say?

“The Perks of Being a Wallflower’s” Ezra Miller is an unexpected, but interesting, casting for the fastest human alive. We’re curious to see what this relative unknown will bring to the role and how it will differ from Grant Gustin’s take on the character from The CW’s “The Flash” – and will Ezra cut off his very long hair!?

No Robin?

“The Dark Knight Rises” ended with Joseph Gordon-Levitt getting the keys to the Batcave and many fans were left hoping he would get his own movie, possibly as Robin’s later incarnation as Nightwing. The character could still make an appearance in one of the multiple “Justice League” movies, but Robin/Nightwing was left out of Wednesday’s big news.

Just How Many Batman & Superman movies are coming?

Buried in the release, Warner Bros. said in addition to the 10 upcoming films, there would be multiple standalone films with DC’s two biggest characters. So how many films will Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill get on their own? Will Ben possibly direct any of them? Will fans see yet another incarnation of The Joker? And is that even possible after Heath Ledger’s Oscar-winning take on the beloved, but demented and evil, character?

Bonus: And Our Most Important Question…

Will DC make the fans of Saturday morning cartoons happy with a brief, but beyond epic, appearance by “Super Friends” characters The Wonder Twins!? If DC is following the Marvel Studios model, then an appearance by the twins, Zan (who could transform in any form of water) and Jayna (who could transform into any animal) would thrill audiences to no end. Let’s make this happen, DC!
