Debbie Gibson Talks Hollywood Moms, Justin Bieber, Charity & Playboy Return

‘80s teen singing sensation Debbie Gibson is sounding off on today’s “Electric Youth” – and she has some strong thoughts on Hollywood’s “Mom-agers.”

The 40-year-old singer stopped by Access Hollywood Live on Friday and reflected back on her rocket to teen stardom.

“Make sure to take in every moment, because the first few years of success are such a whirlwind,” Debbie told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover, when asked what she’d tell herself as a teen.

The singer credits her behind-the-scenes mom for helping her avoid the pitfalls of young Hollywood.

“I had a mother that did not want to walk the red carpet and get her own photograph taken. That’s very key,” Debbie explained. “It’s true though, we have these parents managing their kids and mine has managed me all these years, but you don’t see her front and center. Her job was to look out for me and to help support my career. She didn’t want to be in show business, so that’s very important.”

When it comes to today’s biggest pop sensation, Justin Bieber, the singer’s recent high roller vacation left Debbie raising an eyebrow.

“I think very highly of him actually, but what was he doing vacationing on a yacht at 16-years-old, is my question?” Debbie told Billy and Kit. “Again, this is where kids get into trouble. That is not an activity for a 16-year-old.”

Adding, “I just think, for me, I was clinging to my childhood as opposed to growing up too fast.”

Debbie also looks out for kids around the world through her work with Children’s International. The non-profit organization helps children and families struggling with poverty. The organization, in 11 countries worldwide, aims to break the poverty cycle through health education, emotional support and financial assistance.

The singer is also headed back to the small screen in Syfy’s “Mega Python vs. Gatoroid,” a follow up to 2009’s “Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus.” In the new TV movie, Debbie has an epic ‘80s showdown when she squares off against fellow teen sensation rival Tiffany.

As for returning to the pages of Playboy, the singer coyly told Billy and Kit, “Possibly! I don’t know.”
