Demi Lovato: Laying My Dad To Rest Was ‘Hardest Thing I’ve Ever Done’

Demi Lovato’s father, Patrick Lovato, passed away last weekend and the singer says saying goodbye to her dad was incredibly difficult.

“Today I put my Daddy to rest…. hardest thing I’ve ever done,” Demi Tweeted on Saturday night.

“But I know great things will come of this.. #LovatoTreatmentScholarship,” she added, referencing the mental health scholarship she founded this week in his honor.

Despite the loss, the “X Factor” judge said she’s comforted knowing her father is no longer in pain.

“There’s an overwhelming sense of peace knowing my dad is no longer battling his demons anymore and that makes me so happy…” she Tweeted.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, the “Heart Attack” singer’s older sister, Dallas Lovato, announced Patrick’s passing one week ago on Twitter, writing, “Rest in peace daddy I love you.”

The star’s father had reportedly been battling cancer for many years.

In 2009, while speaking with the New York Daily News, Demi said she had long been estranged from her father, who left the family when she was 2 years old.

“The last time I talked to him was two years ago,” she said at the time. “You try to have faith in somebody, even when you’re the last person that believes in him. But when somebody lets you down after you’ve been the only one there for them, and so many times, you don’t know what else to do.”

The singer said she was forced to sever all ties with her father in order to protect herself emotionally.

“I had to cut off all connection. It was hurting me too much,” she told the paper.
