Derek Hough and Bindi Irwin took on a revered routine on Monday’s “Dancing with the Stars” – and achieved perfection.
The “DWTS” couple tackled the famous “Dirty Dancing” scene – ridiculous lift and all, but Derek revealed rehearsals weren’t always so smooth.
“I always get nervous on the show – always – it’s a good feeling, but I’ve never been more nervous because it’s such an iconic dance, iconic moment, and it’s just something I’m not really used to doing myself,” he told Access Hollywood after Monday night’s live show.

The five-time mirrorball champ admitted that leading up to their big performance, which earned them a perfect 40 points from the judges, they were only nailing the lift some of the time.
“When we practiced it, it was like 50/50. It was like, sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t,” he said. “Even just out here, we were doing it and her dress kept slipping up. Literally seconds before we went on, I had the costume department sew the dress to her underwear so it wouldn’t slip up.”
The difficulty of the lift and the potential for wardrobe malfunctions made their flawless performance (and resulting standing ovation) so much sweeter for the “DWTS” vet.

“So when we did it and we were up there, it was one of the greatest moments ever on the show for me,” he told Access.
“Dancing with the Stars” airs Mondays at 8/7c on ABC.
