Derek Hough & Jennifer Grey Talk ‘Dancing’ Tiff: ‘We’re Crazy About Each Other’

Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough’s on-screen sparring during their “Dancing with the Stars” rehearsals may have looked tense on Monday night’s competition show, but the pair told Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson it was just a blip on the radar.

“I knew from experience, when you have a four-and-a-half minute tiff [in a filmed rehearsal], they’re like, ‘Gold! It’s gold!’” Derek told Shaun of how the pair’s brief rehearsal fracas ended up highlighted on “Dancing.”

“In the week we were laughing and joking,” Derek added. “I pretty much knew the whole week that, that is what was going to be [on the show].”

Before Monday’s “Dancing” even hit the airwaves, Derek Tweeted that a big drama was coming.

“I did,” he said of warning the Team Jennifer/Derek fans on Twitter of the then-upcoming footage. “We had a little [tiff] at the beginning, but no big deal. That’s what it is and to be honest, it’s quite evident and clear. I don’t think we give the impression that we don’t get along.”

“No, we’re crazy about each other,” Jennifer added. “Just, you know, we get tired.”

The pair lost their top leaderboard spot for the second time this season on Monday night (Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy took the night’s top score), and after scoring just 25 out of 30, Jennifer and Derek admitted to being a little disappointed.

“We are perfectionists and we are hard on ourselves,” Derek said. “We are thrilled we still got great scores and came in second.”

Next week, Derek said they would be stepping things up a notch.

“It’s going to get crazy because we have two dances to learn, but I’m excited,” he said. “I feel like Week 5 is, ‘Oh! Now we are on the other side — towards the end. I’m excited really inspired.”
