Director Adam Shankman: Tom Cruise ‘Pouring Himself’ Into ‘Rock of Ages’ Role

Tom Cruise is working hard to rock your world!

The big screen star might not be known for his singing skills, but according to “Rock of Ages” director Adam Shankman, Tom is about blow everyone away in the role of aging rocker Stacee Jaxx when the Broadway musical makes the leap to feature film.

“I think we’re going to see him, every drop, the rock ‘n’ roll god! I’m very excited. He’s so committed to doing it. He’s pouring himself in this part in a way I’ve never had an actor do… it’s pretty intense,” Adam told Access Hollywood at The 24 Hour Hollywood Rush event in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Adding, “Between the voice lessons, the incredible study… researching the period, it’s like 1987, just going there!”

Adam also cleared up rumors that Hollywood heavyweights like Alec Baldwin, Gwyneth Paltrow, Taylor Swift and Russell Brand were joining the movie adaptation of the Broadway hit.

“Some of those reports are true and others are not,” he explained. “We are talking to Alec Baldwin and Gwyneth can’t do it, she’s unavailable. There’s somebody else pretty fabulous… there may be some Russell Brand. I can only say at this point that there may be, because the deals aren’t closed.”

In related news, Adam, who produced the Miley Cyrus hit “The Last Song,” also spoke to Access about the headlines raised by the teen sensation and her father Billy Ray Cyrus. As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Billy Ray recently claimed to GQ magazine that “Hannah Montana” had ruined his family.

“I think that fame is one of the most unnatural experiences a person can endure,” Adam said when asked about the Cyrus family. “It is so unnatural, it can be destructive. So, I don’t know in their case. I love the [Cyrus family.] They’re all very, very sweet. Obviously, I’ve had nothing but a good time with them.”
