Director Edgar Wright Hints At ‘Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World’ August 13 Release Date

“Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World” may be heading to theaters on Friday the 13th.

“I think I may have a US release date for SCOTT PILGRIM, but am a bit superstitious to say it aloud. (clue),” director Edgar Wright Tweeted on Thursday.

Judging by that, the film, previously reported to be due in August, would likely be due August 13 – a Friday.

The director told MTV News last week that the Michael Cera-starring comic book adaptation would fall midway between sci-fi blockbuster “The Matrix” and Judd Apatow’s cult favorite TV series “Freaks and Geeks.”

“When I hired [cinematographer] Bill Pope to be DP – amongst his many films and TV shows he’s done [are] ‘Freaks and Geeks’ and ‘The Matrix,’” Wright said. “And I said to Bill: Imagine this film is equidistant between those two projects. Imagine the film is slap-bang in the middle of ‘Freaks and Geeks’ and ‘The Matrix.’”

And he said the film’s effects – in progress now – would be a combination of styles.

“We try to represent the art of the books, and there’s also the element of graphics and animation, and there’s digital work too, but then at the same time there’s a lot of stuff that’s in-camera – so there really is a combination of all the three,” he said. “There’s some green-screen stuff, but it’s not solely that. You’ll also be surprised when you see how much the actors are doing their own stunts and fights. It’s quite astonishing.”

The comic book series follows the title character (Cera) meeting love interest Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) – only to have to fight off her seven evil ex-boyfriends in between concert gigs with his rock band, Sex Bob-Omb.

And in other release date news, John Cusack comedy “Hot Tub Time Machine” is now due on March 26, while Ben Stiller’s “Meet The Fockers” sequel, “Little Fockers,” has been pushed back to December 22, 2010.
