Director: Mel Gibson Cameo Axed From ‘Hangover 2’

Mel Gibson can drink as much he wants – he won’t be getting a “Hangover” anytime soon.

Despite previous reports to the contrary, Mel will not be making a cameo in the upcoming “The Hangover 2,” Warner Bros. has confirmed to Access Hollywood.

The studio issued the following statement on Thursday, on behalf of the film’s director, Todd Phillips:

“I thought Mel would have been great in the movie and I had the full backing of Jeff Robinov and his team. But I realize filmmaking is a collaborative effort, and this decision ultimately did not have the full support of my entire cast and crew,” the statement from Phillips noted.

According to TMZ, which first reported that Mel wouldn’t be appearing in the highly anticipated sequel, the cast of the movie was not happy with the idea Mel would be joining them on-screen.

While Mel won’t be in the follow-up to the 2009 raunchy blockbuster, the rest of original gang will be, as Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zack Galifianakis, Justin Bartha and Ken Jeong are all returning for film, which is slated to hit theaters on May 26, 2011. Original castmember Heather Graham will not be returning for the sequel.

Mel’s latest film in the can, “The Beaver,” directed by his longtime friend Jodie Foster, is currently awaiting a release date.
