Dish Of Salt: Tucker Gets The Boot (September 15, 2006)

Not surprisingly it was MSNBC host, Tucker Carlson, who was the first to get the boot from “Dancing With the Stars.” Once he took his first wrong step on Tuesday night, it was clearly obvious who would be going home. Combining his 11th place finish with the judges and what I’m guessing was a very low finish with the viewers votes, he had no chance.

I also accurately predicted that Willa Ford would be in the bottom two. If we here in the media have never heard of her, then clearly no one else has. She’s pretty, but she didn’t stand out the way that Stacy Keibler did last season. There are too many other recognizable names on the show for her to win many votes. I’d say if Willa wants to make a splash next week, she needs to bust out with one of those skimpy outfits. Show some skin, dance really well and the viewers will take notice.

We talked to Tucker last night after his loss, who told us the whole experience was definitely worth it, “Are you kidding it was bizarre. I mean I don’t know is sky diving worth it? I mean yeah just for the experience of it. It was totally different. I have never done anything like it in my life.”

The good news is, Tucker tells us there is a great camaraderie behind the scenes, “I made a lot of friends, yeah excellent people, really nice people. There was no cattiness, no nastiness. It seemed like everybody was rooting for everyone else. There was no ?Survivor? tactical battles going on none of that.”

Judge Bruno Tonioli came to the Access Hollywood stage today to give us his take on all the dancers.

Bruno On Tucker Carlson: “Bitter disappointment. It’s not sitting with the stars. He’s a great guy. A great sport but how can you sit for 30 seconds and expect me not to pick on that? It?s just unfair.”

Bruno On Mario Lopez: “There was some extra charge in that region, the hip region. It was turbocharged! Sometimes when you do so well on the first show you got a lot to live up to. It could all change. It’s very very early. When you start so strong, you really have to keep the level high.”

Next week Mario and the guys will be tackling the Quickstep, which Bruno says could be tough for Mario, “Ballroom is more British. It’s a different technique and sometimes someone who is very strong in Latin can fail in ballroom.”

Bruno on Emmitt Smith: “At the moment, in the men, Emmitt was a revelation. He was just a joy. I wanted to dance with him! Sometimes if your technique is not so good and you give so much we are going to respond to it.”

Bruno on Willa Ford: “I think she has to build her audience. From our point of view she was one of the top girls. Her dance was wonderful.”

Bruno on Joe Lawrence: “ It’s very very hard to be the first one out, the first one to open the show. I think his nerves were really affected.”

Bruno on Jerry Springer: “That is exactly, it describes how you have to approach the show. He made an effort and he went out there and gave a performance. Obviously he is not the best dancer but he is entertaining.”
