Disney Green Lights ‘High School Musical 4’

Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens may have graduated and moved on, but Disney’s “High School Musical” franchise will continue with a fourth installment due out in 2010.

“The ‘High School Musical’ trilogy introduced a new generation to the celebrated genre of movie musicals. In crafting this next iteration, we’ve challenged the entire creative team to raise the bar again — and create something truly worthy of this extraordinary global phenomenon,” Gary Marsh, president, Entertainment, Disney Channels Worldwide said in a statement released on Tuesday.

And they way “High School Musical 4” will expand the drama is with a rivalry. According to Disney, the next movie will feature a love triangle “set against the cross-town rivalry between the East High Wildcats and West High Knights,” Disney said in a statement.

Peter Barsocchini, who wrote “HSM 1, 2 & 3,” is back in as screenwriter, while Bill Borden and Barry Rosenbush will once again executive produce.
