Disney’s ‘Hannah Montana’ Soundtrack Tops The Charts!

Disney’s “Hannah Montana” soundtrack tops the Billboard 200 album chart this week with 281,153 copies sold. If this seems a little out of left field to you, think again – the power of tweens with money (or tweens’ parents with money) is a force to be reckoned with. So, why “Hannah Montana?” Amazon music editor Tammy La Gorce explains:

“If the 9-year-old in your life hasn’t alerted you already, consider this your heads up: Not since Hilary Duff has Disney delivered the masses a tween sensation as hot as the double-life-leading Miss Hannah Montana. Country fans will chalk that up to our rhyme-named heroine’s lineage; 14-year-old Miley Cyrus, who plays Montana, is the daughter of Nashville star Billy Ray Cyrus (who duets on this disc’s sentimental, twang-resistant last track). Additional tracks like Jesse McCartney’s “She’s No You” and B5’s Earth Wind & Fire redo “Shining Star” are first-rate complements to the proceedings, but make no mistake: this dance-happy hybrid belongs to the reigning pop princess alone.”

Coming in at #2 this week is the latest release from My Chemical Romance, whose third album “The Dark Parade” combines twisted lyrics, glam-rock riffs and over-the-top theatrics (Liza Minelli makes a cameo!) into a collection of songs that made over 240,000 fans grab it off the shelves. Fans also downloaded the single “Welcome to the Black Parade” over 52,000 times, driving it up the Hot Digital Songs chart to the #7 position.

Entering the album chart at #3 is “Once Again” from John Legend, which sold 231,107 copies.

Justin Timberlake holds fast to the #4 spot on the album chart, selling only slightly less copies of “FutureSex/LoveSounds” than last week. He climbs to the #1 spot on the Top 10 Downloaded Singles chart, however, with his latest single “My Love.”

The rest of the Top 10 features many of the same albums as last week, but with the surprise return of Nickelback’s “All the Right Reasons” re-entering at #9.

Next week’s new releases include an “MTV Unplugged” album from Ricky Martin, the latest from Josh Groban, and the newest volume of the blockbuster “Now That’s What I Call Music!” series.
