Doctor Who: Peter Capaldi Begins Filming Season 8

Peter Capaldi has begun shooting his first full season of “Doctor Who.”

BBC America announced on Tuesday that the newest Doctor, the show’s twelfth, hit the set in Cardiff, Wales, today for his first day of filming Season 8.

“New job, first day, slightly nervous,” Peter said, in a statement. “Just like the Doctor, I’m emerging from the TARDIS into a whole other world.”

Scotsman Peter made his debut as the new Doctor in the series’ 50th anniversary special, “The Day of the Doctor.” He officially took over the role in the recently aired 2013 Christmas special.

“First the eyebrows! Then, at Christmas, the face! Coming soon, the whole Doctor. In the Cardiff studios, the Capaldi era begins,” Executive Producer and Lead Writer for “Doctor Who,” Steven Moffat, said in a statement on Tuesday.

The show’s EP has written the first episode of Season 8. Episode 2 was penned by Phil Ford.

Ben Wheatley is directing the first episodes starring Peter as the Doctor, and filming will continue through August 2014.

Jenna Coleman continues as the Doctor’s companion, Clara.

Matt Smith made his last appearance as the Doctor in the Christmas special.
