Dr. Phil Regrets Statements Made About Britney Spears; But Not His Hospital Visit

Dr. Phil is admitting he made a mistake talking about his visit with Britney Spears while she was hospitalized, but he’s not sorry he visited the troubled pop star.

The TV talk show host told his audience during a taping Thursday, “Was it helpful to the situation? Regrettably, no. It was not, and I have to acknowledge that and I do.”

In the episode set to air Monday, Dr. Phil goes on to say, “I definitely think if I had it to do over again, I probably wouldn’t make any statement at all. Period.”

Dr. Phil told USA Today, his visit was prompted by a request from the Spears family, and he went as “a friend and ally of the family,” not as a psychologist.

Dr. Phil is not licensed to practice in California. Though practicing without a license is against the law, he does not need one for his talk show, as guests sign a contract saying they are aware that he is not medically treating them.
