Duchess Kate Middleton Pregnant: Palace Confirms!

A heir to the throne is on the way!

Kate Middleton and Prince William are expecting their first child, the Palace announced on Monday.

“Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby, ” a Palace rep said in a statement to Access Hollywood.

“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both families are delighted with the news,” the statement continued.

The 30-year-old beauty, who married Prince William on April 29, 2011, is already feeling the effects of her pregnancy.

“The Duchess was admitted this afternoon to King Edward VII Hospital in Central London with Hyperemesis Gravidarum (morning sickness),” the statement continued. “As the pregnancy is in its very early stages, Her Royal Highness is expected to stay in [the] hospital for several days and will require a period of rest thereafter.”

Royal expert Neil Sean explained to Access’ Billy Bush how the gender of the baby won’t matter when it comes to possibly taking the throne. The couple’s baby will be third in line to be either the King or Queen of England.

“The succession rules did change last year. A groundbreaking change in fact…it doesn’t really matter for the first time ever whether it’s a boy or girl. Normally it used to be the male that was the natural succession, now if it’s a girl, it’s the same thing,” Neil told Billy on Monday. “If it’s a girl of course, everybody will be looking towards the girl’s name, what will it be? Of course a lot of people will be looking for the name Diana, and obviously I think William would have a little bit of say in there.”

The succession changes pretty much rule out Prince Harry ever becoming King.

“Well with these succession rules, meaning a boy or a girl equally embraced as far as the monarchy is concerned, that puts this child third in line for the throne. That puts Harry way outside in the perimeter, there’s no chance he’ll every become king, which means Vegas ought to start planning the big return… Harry’s in the clear,” Neil added.

William’s mother, Princess Diana, got pregnant only four months after her wedding to Prince Charles in 1981. In 1983 she had a miscarriage, followed by giving birth to Prince Harry in 1984.

According to the Associated Press, during the couple’s recent tour of Malaysia, Singapore, the Solomon Islands and Tuvalu, William reportedly said he hoped he and Kate would have two children.
