Ed O’Neill Questions Jane Lynch’s Emmy Win: Sue Sylvester Is ‘Just A One-Note Character’

The Emmy voters crowned Jane Lynch Best Actress in a Comedy this year at the Emmy Awards, but “Modern Family’s” Ed O’Neill disagrees with her win.

“I love Jane, honestly I do,” the 64-year-old TV veteran recently said during a press conference for international TV critics, as reported by TV Guide. “I’m dying to star in one of Christopher Guest’s movies alongside her, but I don’t think she should have gotten the Emmy for that part. She (Sue Sylvester) is just a one-note character.”

Ed felt the Emmy love should have gone to his own onscreen love, actress Sofia Vergara, who was nominated against Jane for her role as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett.

“Sofia is just so, so funny,” he continued. “I don’t think people realize how hilarious she is. She’s so sharp with her wit, it’s amazing.”

Perhaps Ed’s just still a bit bitter against the Television Academy still? His decision to enter himself in the Best Actor category, rather than the Best Supporting Actor category, is what likely lead to him being snubbed for a nomination this year. Albeit, “Modern Family” did indeed win for Best Comedy.
