“Spiderman” star Rhys Ifans is joining the cast of “Elementary” Season 2 in a recurring role.

The Welsh actor will play the older brother of Jonny Lee Miller’s Sherlock Holmes – Mycroft Holmes.

The new character, Mycroft, will appear in the second season premiere of “Elementary,” which is being shot in London, England.

In the episode, Sherlock is called to London to look into an old case, and it puts him face to face with his older brother, Mycroft, who he previously had a big falling out with.

Sherlock and his companion-turned-associate Joan (Lucy Liu) will stay with Mycroft in his abode at 221B Baker Street. That address — 221B Baker Street — was Sherlock Holmes’ address in the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle novels about the legendary detective.

Joan will help the two brothers confront their past.

“I could not be more excited to have Rhys coming aboard,” Executive Producer and Creator Robert Doherty said in a statement. “I’ve always been a tremendous fan and feel very honored to have him in the fold. Equally excited are Jonny and Lucy, both of whom have worked with Rhys in feature films. I think this is going to be a lot of fun for all of us.”

“Elementary” returns for Season 2 on Thursday, September 26 at 10 PM ET/PT on CBS.
