Ellen Page Comes Out As Gay: ‘I’m Tired Of Hiding’

Ellen Page has come out as gay.

The “Juno” star revealed she is a lesbian while giving an emotional speech at the Human Rights Campaign’s Time to THRIVE Conference on Valentine’s Day.

“I am here today because I am gay. And because maybe I can make a difference,” she told the crowd. “To help others have an easier and more hopeful time. Regardless, for me I feel a personal obligation and a social responsibility.”

The 26-year-old star said hiding who she is has been exhausting and taken a toll on her mind and health.

“I also do it selfishly because I’m tired of hiding and I’m tired of lying by omission,” she said. “I suffered for years because I was scared to be out. My spirit suffered. My mental health suffered. And my relationships suffered. And I’m standing here today with all of you on the other side of that pain.”

Ellen, who will next be seen on the big screen in “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” also shared her thoughts on love, in celebration of Friday’s holiday.

“I am young yes, but what I have learned is that love — the beauty of it, the joy of it, yes even the pain of it — is the most incredible gift to give and to receive as a human being,” she said. “And we deserve to experience love fully, equally, and without shame and without compromise.”

The actress’ brave speech earned a standing ovation from the audience, and Ellen took to Twitter to thank supportive fans.

“Thank you @HRC and everyone for all the love and support. X,” she Tweeted.
