Eminem Earns Sixth No. 1 With ‘Recovery’; Scores Chart’s Biggest Debut Since 2008

Eminem has made a full “Recovery.”

The resurgent rapper bowed at No. 1 with sales of 741,000 copies of his latest album, “Recovery,” according to Billboard. The impressive opening marks the biggest chart-topper since AC/DC’s “Black Ice,” which sold 784,000 in October 2008.

“Recovery” is Eminem’s sixth No. 1 overall. The MC, who was Billboard’s top-selling artist of the 2000s, is second only to Jay-Z (who has 11 No. 1s) among rap chart-toppers.

“Recovery’s” big release came a week after a strong debut for another highly anticipated hip-hop effort, Drake’s debut album, “Thank Me Later,” which sold 447,000 copies in its first week. “Recovery” bumped “Thank Me Later” to No. 2 this week.

Landing in third place was Miley Cyrus’ much-discussed “Can’t Be Tamed,” which sold a disappointing 102,000 — a steep drop from the 371,000-copy debut of 2008’s “Breakout,” which featured the hit “7 Things.”
