Eminem Talks Parenting & Profanity: ‘I Don’t Cuss’

Though his numerous chart-topping albums are branded with parental advisory warnings, Eminem says he keeps it clean at home.

The Grammy Award-winning hip hop star sat down with CNN’s Anderson Cooper for a “60 Minutes” interview that will air on Sunday, and revealed that his home life as a father varies greatly from his public persona.

“Profanity around my house? No,” Eminem tells Anderson, when asked if his real life vocabulary mimics that of his records. “I’m not saying there’s not glimpses of me in the music, [that] there’s not truth in…things that I say, but this is music, this is my art.”

The “Love The Way You Lie” rapper has a daughter, Hailie, 14, with ex-wife Kim Mathers, and is also bringing up Lainey, the daughter of Kim’s sister, and Whitney, Kim’s daughter from a previous relationship.

“I’m a parent. I have daughters,” he said. “I mean, how would I really sound, as a person…walking around my house [saying] ‘Bitch, pick this up,’ you know what I mean?

“I don’t cuss,” he added.

When asked if he feels a sense of responsibility as a role model to young fans who could be swayed by his often profanity-laced lyrics, the rapper responded, “I feel like it’s your job to parent them. If you’re the parent, be a parent.”

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Eminem has been very open about his struggle with addiction to pills, as chronicled on his most recent album, “Recovery.”

“The things I was putting in my body, my tolerance got so high,” Eminem told Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush in an exclusive interview in June. “I got to the point where I couldn’t even count how many pills I was taking… I guess I really had to reach down, reach deep down and look at myself and realize this is my fault, like, take responsibility for the way I’m living and stop blaming other people.”

Catch the new full interview with Eminem when it airs on “60 Minutes” on Sunday, October 10, at 7 PM on CBS.
