Emmitt Smith To Keep On Dancing?

LOS ANGELES (November 1, 2006) — Emmitt Smith says a pep talk from his former football-playing buddy Jerry Rice has given him some motivation as he continues in his quest in winning this year’s “Dancing With the Stars” competition.

But ultimately, it’s up to the voters to decide whether he will be allowed to go on through as one of the final three couples in the event.

The latest vote-off comes tonight and sees Smith and his partner Cheryl tied for second with 54 out of a possible 60 points from the judges last night.

It probably didn’t hurt that during the week, Smith hung out with Cheryl in San Francisco, where the dancer has a full-length ballroom dance floor at her home.

Judge Carrie Ann Inaba says after seeing Jerry Rice last year, she thought having another football player would turn out to be a bust. She says while Rice was “charming and lovely” he wasn’t the best dancer. But she says Smith is “a fantastic dancer” who has “a natural groove” and is “beautiful to watch on the dance floor.”

Other couples who turned in good performances last night according to the judges were Joey and Edyta and Mario and Karina.
