Emmy Nominations 2015: 10 Surprising Snubs!

Many familiar TV favorites were nominated Thursday morning for the 2015 Primetime Emmy Awards, but some very popular actors and shows were left out.

Terrence Howard, Ellie Kemper &  Gina Rodriguez (Fox, Netflix, CW)

It was a stellar morning for “Game of Thrones” (which earned 24 noms), “American Horror Story: Freak Show” (19) and “House of Cards,” “Mad Men” and “Transparent” (which all earned 11 noms each).

But who won’t be fretting over what designer to wear on Emmy night or how to work their publicist’s name into their acceptance speech? AccessHollywood.com takes a closer look at those actors and shows who might have thought they would awake to Emmy nomination news, but were snubbed!

Gina Rodriguez: Golden Globe and Peabody Awards didn’t mean much to Emmy voters this year as the breakout star was left off the morning list of nominees.

“Jane The Virgin”: Gina’s breakout CW series, which combines both comedy and heartfelt, touching stories was also snubbed, despite a Golden Globes nom this year for Best Comedy.

Jim Parsons: Has the “Bang” finally burst? After winning in 2014 and 2013 (along with 2011 and 2010) the actor failed score a nod for his Sheldon Cooper role.

“Empire”: This year’s biggest network show failed to be deemed a hit by Emmy voters, but series star Taraji P. Henson was honored with a nom for her Cookie Lyon role.

Terrence Howard: Taraji might have been feeling some Emmy love on Thursday, but her co-star’s turn as music mogul Lucious Lyon failed to chart with Emmy voters.

Julianna Margulies: Last year’s winner for “The Good Wife” was shut out of a competitive category. Did first-time nominee and fan-favorite “Orphan Black” star Tatiana Maslany steal her spot?

Kerry Washington: The “Scandal” star has been nominated the last two years for her Olivia Pope role, but in a tight race, she was possibly edged out by fellow Shondaland actress Viola Davis for her role on “How To Get Away With Murder.”

Ellie Kemper: The hilarious “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” star might have snapped a little this morning with this major oversight by Emmy voters – but rest assured, like the show’s theme song says, “females are strong as hell!” (Kudos to fellow “Kimmy” star Tituss Burgess’ nom for Titus Andromedon – we raise a glass of pinot noir to you!)

Vincent D’Onofrio: Many thought Marvel’s first Netflix series had their best shot at some Emmy love with the actor for his role as Wilson Fisk, but Emmy voters turned a blind eye to his powerful Season 1 performance.

Major Network Series: Of the 14 nominations for the night’s two major categories (Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Comedy Series), a mere two came from the big four networks (NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox) with only “Modern Family” and “Parks and Recreation” scoring a nod. On the drama side, there were zero nods from the big four. Of the top 10 most-nominated programs and series, not one was from NBC, ABC, CBS or Fox. Talk about a major wakeup call for the big four – it’s time to up the content game!

The 67th annual Primetime Emmys will air live on Sunday September 20 on Fox at 8 ET/5 PT.
