Many familiar TV favorites were nominated Thursday morning for the 2014 Primetime Emmy Awards, but some very popular actors and shows were left out.
It was a stellar morning for “Game of Thrones” (which earned up 19 noms), “Fargo” (18 ) and “American Horror Story: Coven” (17), as well as “Breaking Bad” (16) and “Saturday Night Live” (14).
But who won’t be fretting over what designer to wear on Emmy night or how to work their publicist’s name into their acceptance speech? AccessHollywood.com takes a closer look at those actors and shows who might have thought they would awake to Emmy nomination news, but were snubbed!
“Orphan Black’s” Tatiana Maslany: The sci-fi clone series star might be loved by its devoted fans for playing a slew of different characters, but Emmy voters were not impressed enough – or maybe they just can’t find BBC America on the dial!
“The Good Wife”: Julianna Margulies may have gotten a nod, but in a sea of high quality cable series, the CBS drama itself was left out despite many thinking it would score a nomination.
“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”: The Fox comedy might have been the big TV surprise at the Golden Globes, but this morning the series and star Andy Samberg needed an APB put out on them because they were missing!
“Mad Men’s” Elisabeth Moss: The actress turned in a powerful performance this season on the AMC series, but couldn’t compete with the likes of Michelle Dockery, Claire Danes, Robin Wright, Lizzy Caplan, Kerry Washington and Julianna Margulies in the Outstanding Lead Actress in Drama category.

“Modern Family’s” Sofia Vergara: The actress has scored an Emmy nomination for the last four years, but this year she awoke to a snub – and possibly Joe Manganiello, so we don’t feel all that bad for her!
“The Blacklist’s” James Spader: Fans of the NBC drama can’t get enough of the actor, but Academy voters failed to feel the same way.
“Masters of Sex”: The Showtime series scored five other nominations, but suffered from a bout of nomination dysfunction in the Outstanding Drama series department – hey, it happens to lots of good shows, really.
“The Mindy Project’s” Mindy Kaling & Chris Messina: The little Fox comedy series that could (beloved by its devoted fans, but possibly not watched by enough voters), just didn’t have enough steam on Emmy nominations morning.
“Homeland”: The gripping Showtime drama got some love in the acting department (Claire Danes), but failed to earn a nod for the series. The show took home the award in 2012 and the writing award in 2013.
Network Drama Series: ABC, CBS, Fox & NBC all failed to earn a nod in the Outstanding Drama series category. The big four networks just couldn’t compete with the likes of AMC’s “Breaking Bad, PBS’ “Downton Abbey,” HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” Netflix’s “House of Cards,” AMC’s “Mad Men,” and HBO’s “True Detective.

The 66th annual Primetime Emmys will air live on Monday (a new day of the week this year), August 25 on NBC at 8 ET/5 PT.
